Field Notes with Mereki

15th December 2025       5 minutes

We are so excited to talk to Mereki a dear friend of AMLY on the release of her latest album ‘Buttercup’. We chatted about what inspires her writing, life’s rituals and of course her wellbeing and skincare tips!

Indie-pop artist Mereki writes songs from an open heart. She loves to sing and is most often found humming a tune of her own design. Her journey through songwriting and music is rooted in a search for self-realization and moments of ethereal discovery. Putting pen to paper is her way of making sense of the world and a means to navigate the big feelings her sensitivities make her attuned to.

Originally from Australia she moved to Los Angeles, where she became part of the creative community and scene on the city’s east side, before settling into her life in England where she splits her time between the idyllic English countryside and inspiring London.

Following the release of her critically acclaimed debut album, Death of a Cloud, in 2023 her sophomore LP , Buttercup, was released in September 2025 and features guests including Fred Armisen & Dhani Harrison. Every song is a diary entry directly from Mereki’s journals.

Authenticity was at the heart of every choice made on Buttercup and can be heard through-out the lush and deeply cared for recordings.

The new album sounds divine! We would love to know more about what inspired the songs and sounds?

"Sappy as it sounds, it’s true love. Having been with my partner for almost 10 years, I’m really inspired by our journey as a couple and how the adventure just keeps going! I am also always interested in the love that I continue to discover and am challenged by for myself and for others. And there are quite a few songs that delve into existential inquiry. I guess I'm kind of just inspired by being alive. Musically I was really determined to maintain authenticity and didn't want all of the production bells and whistles that feel commonplace these days. I wanted the songs to remain raw and vulnerable, the way they were written."

There seem to be lots of references to nature and your surroundings in your writing, is that where you feel most inspired and how do you connect to nature in your daily life?

"Nature is the answer to everything. It's more of a necessity for me than anything. I'm actually quite inspired by people, life, conversations, and relationships - including mine with 'God'/The Universe - which I find easier when I'm in nature. Life and distractions are so busy, and then 'I walk outside to a sunflower's smile and everything is alright' - sorry to be a loser and quote my own lyrics - but it really sometimes is as simple as that."

Flowers seem to be a gorgeous theme in your songs, what do they represent for you and do you have a favourite?

"Ooh, I have so many favourites. I'm a classic Rose girly, really, but I do love all of my flower friends. I love the way they bloom for no one in particular, and have no shame when they inevitably wilt away, knowing inherently that they will bloom again."

We know kindness and magic are at the backbone of everything you aim to be and be around in your music and in your life. How important do you feel this is for us all in our daily lives in the midst of such chaotic times?

"I think it's glaringly apparent that kindness and magic are more important than ever. I tend not to read too much news, as it's mostly driven by an agenda, and I don't particularly like being manipulated. I believe firmly in operating from a place of Love and not Fear, where I can, and I don't see too much that's encouraging that within the general media cycle. I practice loving-kindness towards everyone, including those who have differing opinions and belief systems from mine. And magic is everywhere... you just have to look."

Can you talk us through the beauty and wellbeing rituals you feel you cannot be without.
Any top tips welcome!

"It's a bit boring but daily meditation & exercise (even a short walk), really good quality water & REST. There's a lot of guilt around rest in a world that holds productivity up on such a pedestal but I actually write my best songs after a long day of doing absolutely nothing. Oh and I exclusively use AMLY every morning & night!"

Do tell us which are your favourite AMLY Products and how you use them in your everyday rituals.

"I love the Day Light Oil to start the day right and then the Deep Reveal Cleansing Balm & Sleep Tight Balm are a must for my evening wind down. I actually feel really out of sorts If I haven't managed to tap into my daily Amly rituals. It's always an indication of self-love & care for me."
